Muitos conhecem o bairro antes de conhecer a fruta. E você, qual cambuci conheceu primeiro?
O bairro Cambuci, hoje reconhecido por estar localizado na zona central de São Paulo, leva esse nome devido a grande quantidade de árvores da fruta que se concentravam na área. No século 16, tropeiros chegavam de viagem e lavavam seus pés no chamado Córrego dos Lavapés antes de entrar na cidade e na igreja do local.
O córrego que separava a área rural e a cidade, ficava ao lado da rua que ainda leva o nome de "Rua dos Lavapés".
Apesar de toda a extensão de São Paulo ter sido coberta de nativas da Mata Atlântica, hoje são poucas no centro urbano e uma delas é a árvore de cambuci eleita no Árvore Mais Querida, concurso promovido pelo jornal Bom Dia SP.
Cambuci: the neighborhood or the fruit?
The Cambuci neighborhood, now known for It’s location in downtown São Paulo and being one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, bears this name due to the large number of cambuci trees that where concentrated in the area. In the 16th century, those who arrived in the Cambuci neighborhood, would wash their feet in the stream so-called Córrego dos Lavapés before entering the city and the local church.
The stream that separated the rural area from the city, was next to the street that still bears the name "Rua dos Lavapés". Although the entire extension of São Paulo was covered with native species from the Atlantic Forest, today there are few in the urban center and one of them is the cambuci tree chosen in the Most Loved Tree (Árvore Mais Querida), a contest promoted by the news Bom Dia SP.
